Pick up any "business opportunity" magazine at your local newsstand and you'll see a glossy attractive publication designed to attract people who are actively seeking ways to earn extra money, buy a franchise, or open a business of their own. After all, it's the American Dream to own your own business and get rich, right?

You've probably heard the old saying, "Most people are too busy earning a living to make any money." Common sense tells us that we're not going to get rich working for someone else, with the exception of lucky folks like those who started with Microsoft or Google in their early days and got rich through stock options. The average American employee lives from paycheck to paycheck with barely enough income to cover their living expenses, leaving nothing for investment toward building wealth for a comfortable retirement. Hence the allure of the "Business Opportunity."

As you flip through one of these "BizOpp" magazines, you'll see a wide variety of advertisements for different types of businesses, ranging from simple "starter kits" for around $29 all the way to sophisticated franchises costing $100,000 or more. For most people, it's impossible to raise enough capital to consider opening a true franchise. The franchise fees alone are often prohibitive, running into tens of thousands of dollars even for the lesser known businesses, or several hundred thousand dollars for better known companies. And that's not even including the outlay required to actually open the doors for business.

At the other end of the scale, most people are aware that the cheap starter kits and "business in a box" packages are basically junk. But that leaves a whole host of medium-priced business startup concepts, ranging in price from around $500 on the low end to $10,000 on the upper end. I refer to these as "pre-packaged business opportunities."

To explain why pre-packaged businesses are usually a waste of time and money, I'll use windshield repair as an example. As I write this, I'm looking at an ad for a training program that costs $3,000, including starter materials. In case you don't know what I'm referring to here, the basic idea is that small chips, cracks, or holes in automobile windshields can be repaired using a special liquid material that seals and repairs defects. This is obviously much cheaper than replacing an entire windshield. Hence the "opportunity" to start a business that helps people save money on their windshield repairs.

Now, in case you're thinking, "There's no way I would want to be in that business," please bear in mind I'm just using this as an example out of hundreds of possible different business concepts advertised in the same fashion. And of course there are many people who would be attracted to such a "business opportunity" -- people who really like cars, people who already know quite a bit about auto repair, and so on. Plenty of individuals are attracted to a business idea like this, which is why this particular "opportunity" has been around for decades.

Now, here's the real question. Can you seriously expect to shell out $3,000 for some starter materials and training in the windshield repair business, then put a sign out, and expect to start earning money right away? Of course not! This is the #1 flaw with pre-packaged business opportunities: you still have to figure out how to market the product or service on your own.

Let's take a closer look at the windshield repair business. Let's say your goal is to make $50,000 per year in net income. If we assume that you can charge around $50 per windshield repair, at a material cost of around $10, then you have a gross profit (not counting your labor) of $40 per repair. To make $50,000 net, you'd need to find 1,250 windshields per year that required fixing. That translates to more than 100 repairs per month, and you'd need to keep this up month in and month out to meet your income goal. That works out to 3-5 repairs per day, depending on how many days per month you work.

Now, if you had 1,250 cars lined up down the road, all ready for the repair work, it would be nice easy money, right? But FINDING those 1,250 cars and then SELLING those 1,250 car owners on your service will be the real problem. In other words, you don't really have a windshield repair job here. You have a SALES job, pure and simple. Most of your time will be spent finding business. Obviously, finding one car at a time will be totally impractical. Instead, you'll need fleet accounts with major car dealerships, auto repair shops, car rental agencies, and so on. And you can bet that a number of other people (some of whom bought the same pre-packaged business that you did) have also solicited the same companies for their windshield repair business.

So again, what you really have here is a sales job. If this were a truly profitable business, then the company selling you the "opportunity" would not be making all their money selling pre-packaged businesses to people like yourself. Instead, they would be making their money by rolling out the service across the country and selling windshield repair directly to fleet accounts on a nationwide basis. But they know that there is actually more money to be made in the BizOpp world, preying on people who have the dream of starting their own business.

The message here is that any pre-packaged business opportunity that sells in the $500 to $10,000 range is typically worthless and a complete waste of your time and money. Please bear in mind that these numbers are just a guideline, and you must always exercise good judgment when evaluating any business opportunity. Just because a "hot" pre-packaged opportunity is selling for more than $10,000 does not mean that it is necessarily legitimate. Many rip-offs cost a lot more than that. But generally speaking, the promoters of these schemes realize they are aiming at people who can't pay a lot of money to get started in business. So the packages are marketed in a way that will maximize the number of people that can afford to buy in.

If you are serious about starting your own business, then a pre-packaged opportunity is not the way to go. It might seem like an easy answer to your problem, but the very fact that it's being sold as a packaged business probably means that there's no real money to be made without a long hard sales grind. You're much better off doing your own research, coming up with your own business ideas, and then testing your ideas with small advertisements to see if your concepts have any real potential. That's how many businesses get their start. You'll have a much better chance of making it in the world of business or self-employment if you ignore those BizOpp magazines entirely!

However, many people join mlm type opportunities without really knowing what they are getting themselves in to. This is probably one of the biggest reasons for the fact that some people have very low thoughts about this type of business.

Mlm works if you do it right. Period. That said, here are seven really poor reasons for enrolling in a network marketing opportunity:

1) Earning "easy money"

I know - the mlm-companies are very good a promoting their business as a simple 1-2-3 process that anyone can do and become an instant millionaire. Especially online it has almost become a standard to use super long and totally over hyped sales letters.

This is the equivalent of claiming that anyone who can open a can of beans can be a master chef.

Don't get me wrong, I do think most people CAN make it in mlm if they put their minds to it. But you must be prepared to learn many new things and you WILL have to work for it. Make no mistake about that!

2) Expecting that "spill over" will do all the work

Many mlm opportunities are built on what's called a "forced matrix". For example, in a 3x9 matrix, when you have sponsored your three first new members, the fourth will be placed under the first person you sponsored. This person has thus gained one person in HIS downline, without any effort on his part.

Now, some companies would have you believe that their top recruiters are so effective that the spill over from their marketing will automatically make you, who are joining at the very bottom right now, an instant success.

This is simply a pipe dream - it will never happen. Yes, you probably will get a few people spilled over into your downline, but nowhere near enough to guarantee your success. The sheer width of the matrix on your level, means that there is an enormous amount of representatives that will have to shear any amount of spill over.

And who says the top recruiters are as active as they once where anyway? Worst case scenario, they are now working on something else entirely, because their income in this particular opportunity is already secured.

3) Thinking that a product is so great it will sell itself

This is a classic mistake, because most mlm systems simply aren't really about the product. This fact is difficult to swallow, I know.

As a greenhorn I remember joining this lottery syndicate-mlm, thinking that "everybody" would want better chances at winning the lottery - right? The disappointment was huge when I discovered the truth - some people even made fun of any attempt to mention this great new thing I had discovered.

4) Doing an old friend a favour

We have all been there - an old friend you haven't met for years who suddenly calls you and want to set up a meeting about something he will tell you more about when you meet...

I'm not saying that this couldn't be a potentially good business. But calling all your friends is a very ineffective way to do mlm, and you should never join any opportunity only to do someone else a favour. Because in the end this is about you, your money and your career.

5) Earning a lot of money in a short period of time

Most mlm testimonials always seem to go something like this:

- In my first month I made $800 and now, in my third month, I have been able to quit my job and...etc.

While not outright lies, testimonials like these are usually collected from individuals who, through luck or skill, managed to join this particular opportunity from the very beginning. They are simply at the top of the pyramid and they often know exactly what they are doing - the're the mlm experts.

Like most offerings, mlm opportunities have a life cycle that grows rapidly in the beginning. During this phase of explosive growth it can be very easy to sponsor dozens of new people per day, with relatively little effort. After all, this is something entirely new and one well placed ad can do wonders.

However, if you join after this initial explosion, it is much more difficult to see quick results and it requires more effort to attract new people into the business. Patience, knowledge and the right strategy is required to succeed here.

6) Big name X endorses this program

This is somewhat related to the previous point. Mr. Big Hitter have made thousands of dollars with this opportunity already and he is not shy about telling anyone how EASY it was. And he's probably not lying either. It was easy - for him.

Because, like noted above, he probably got involved in this opportunity long before it was launched to the general public, because he already knows all the right people.

He (or she), also know their stuff, and have the resources (large email lists, advanced Internet marketing tools etc.) to quickly and efficiently let the word out to a large number of people.

If you are relatively new to this game, it is a very bad idea indeed to assume that you instantly could pull off feats worthy of a network marketing guru. Would you compare your golfing abilities to those of Tiger Woods?

I didn't think so.

7) Thinking this will be a free business to run

I'm not talking about the membership fee of your mlm opportunity here, because that is a given. But many people falsely believe that they can market entirely for free using the Internet.

While it's true that there are some effective low cost Internet marketing techniques you can use, you should never fool yourself into believing that Internet marketing will be a no cost affair. Moreover, the online competition is usually quite fierce.

To summarize; Mlm can offer an exciting new way to earn money. But your motivation for joining a mlm business shouldn't be based on one of the misconceptions mentioned above.

Treat your business like a business, and you will be okey.

Which one do you think that will make people keep on reading your newsletter?

4) Things – Using this word will not make your salesletter sound astonishing. It makes the salesletter very boring to read. This will make people lost their confidence in whatever you've offered to them. Instead of using the word 'things', consider to revise it to 'tips', 'tricks' or 'techniques'. "Get these 5 great techniques right away" is far better than "Get these 5 great things right away."

5) Stuff – This word is what most marketers used to describe how great the product is. If you change it to 'Insider Secrets', definitely this will give people an urge to act right away. Consider this two words, "Click here to download your 7 stuffs" or "Click here to download your 7 amazing insider secrets." Which one would you like to click?

Diving in! Many bloggers are so anxious to get started that they dive in rather than wading in slowly -- its a mistake in an unfamiliar swimming pool or pond and its a mistake when entering a new arena such as the 'blogosphere.' Consider these things before you start your Blog:

Find a focus for your blog . . . a focus that reflects what you know, what interests you and what you enjoy talking and writing about. No topics are out of bounds: politics, religion, science, sexual orientations, comedy, exercise, diet, diseases, etc., etc..

Take the time to read dozens of different blogs: note the colors, graphics and layouts to get an idea of what appeals to you. Also note that some bloggers are long-winded and others are brief and to the point . . . others are just chatty and entertaining and have no particular point to make . . . this too is a personal style you get to choose.

You need a host for your blog, some are free, some charge a small amount per month for their service, some are simple to use and some require more technical knowledge, some have more features than others; choose carefully, once you've established your blog and have a few regular readers you may not want to change your address (your URL).

You may or may not want to use your real name on your blog, this depends on many factors, not the least of which is your stance on controversial issues and how publicly you want to be identified with your opinions.

Unrealistic expectations! If you come to blogging expecting instant results: a large readership and many complimentary comments, you may be disappointed. There are tens of thousands of blogs online vying for the same audience. Patience and tenacity are essential on your part. If you write well, find a unique niche to fill, have appealing titles for your posts and tirelessly promote your blog the readership and comments (some of which will be complimentary) will come.

Losing focus! When you started your blog you had a particular reason for doing so; it might have been to express your views on a topic or it might have been to just communicate with a close circle of friends about your daily activities. Readers will come to your blog for the first time and either be interested in your subject matter or not, will either like your style or not and, if they like your subject and style they may comment and then come back later. Once you've established a topic and tone for your blog you're free to change it but to do so you're basically starting all over.

Be aware that you can have more than one blog, each one devoted to a particular topic and each one, if you choose, under a different identity.

Plagiarizing! There are some great bloggers out there and as you surf through blogs you might find one who said something really well, something that resonated with you and something you want to put in your blog. DON'T just copy and paste someone's words in your blog without giving them credit, making it look to the world like the words are yours. If you write it, write it in your own words and write it better, adding your own thoughts and feelings and then be gracious, mention where you got the idea and provide a link.

Ignoring the reader! Some of the people who read your blog will leave comments; some readers will agree with you and some readers may even praise your insights but most will pick a point you've made and criticize it. People leave comments on others blogs for the same reason they themselves blog, to exchange ideas and express their points of view. Always respond to your readers comments; thank them for reading and taking the time to comment (even the severe critics) and then respond, as appropriate, to their comment. If you ignore your comments your readers may end up ignoring your blog.

I firmly believe that to be a success when selling ebooks on eBay you need to have an eBay store.  They more than pay for the £6 monthly fee with the benefits they provide.  These include cheaper fees, longer listing duration, and much more.  Find out about all the benefits below:

1) Cheaper Fees:- The insertion fee for an auction listing on eBay is 15p.  The insertion fee for a buy it now listing on eBay is 20p.  However, the insertion fee for a store listing is only 3p.  On top of this the gallery fee for auction and buy it now listings is 15p whilst the gallery fee for a store listing is only 5p.  These are the only two listing features I use for my eBay ebook listings which gives me a total saving of between 12p-17p per ebook I list in my eBay store.  Now this doesn't seem like much of a saving, but since I list all my ebooks as store listings and only a small proportion as auction listings this actually equates to a significant saving.  I would advise any other ebook sellers on eBay to also list their ebooks in this way as it will lead to huge cost savings for you.  If you list your full inventory as eBay store listings, and then your most popular items on the main eBay site as either buy it now or auction style listings you can save money and promote your eBay store (I will discuss this promotion aspect further in the next edition of the newsletter).

2) Longer Listing Duration:- The maximum listing duration of a buy it now or auction style listing is ten days.  With a store inventory listing you can list for 30 days, 90 days, or Good till Cancelled (the listing renews every 30 days till you cancel it).  Not only does this provide the benefit of added value for money, but it also saves you a lot of time.  Instead of relisting an ebook every ten days you can simply list it in your store as Good till Cancelled and not worry about it again.

3) Unlimited Inventory:- When you list an ebook as an auction or buy it now the insertion fee goes up depending how many items you want to list.  When you list in your eBay store the insertion fee remains at 3p whether you list 1 item or 1000 items.  This is a huge benefit to ebook sellers because as you already know, you can sell infinite copies of the same ebook, since it is digital.  Therefore, if you list 1000 copies of your ebook (or even more if you wish) as a Good till Cancelled listing you will hardly every have to maintain it.  This will not only save you time but also money.

4) Custom Store Pages:- With a basic eBay store you get 5 custom pages (and even more with anchor and featured stores).  These custom pages are useful ways of conveying extra information to your customers.  I use my custom pages for; a Disclaimer page, a Privacy Policy page, a SPAM Policy page, a Terms and Conditions page, and a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page.  However, they can also be used to convey other important information to your customers or to promote one of your products or websites.  Having these custom pages available in your eBay store makes you look more professional which in turn generates increased customer trust.

5) Store Categories:- With an eBay store you get 20 custom categories which you can assign your listings to.  This is extremely useful because customers who are looking for a certain type of ebook will be able to browse by category.  Some of the categories I use include; "Gambling Guides and Systems," "Email and Autoresponder" and "Wholesale and Dropshipping."  If a customer visits my eBay store and only has a general idea of the ebook that they want, these categories should guide them in the right direction, and then hopefully lead to a sale.  Since many people who buy ebooks will be merely browsing, these categories should increase sales and also make your store easier to navigate, meaning customers are more likely to return.

6) Store Cross Promotion:- With an eBay store you can cross-promote your items.  This involves a small box appearing at the bottom of your listings promoting some of your other listings.  You can do this manually, automatically, or via store category.  I prefer to do it by category as then the most relevant listings appear and so there is more chance of a customer making a repeat purchase.  For example, if a customer buys a Chilli Recipe ebook and at the bottom of the listing you are promoting 4 more recipe ebooks, it is likely that this is something the buyer will be interested in, and so may make another purchase from you.  If however, 4 gambling guides appear, the customer is unlikely to be interested in this, and so is less likely to make a repeat purchase.  Repeat business will not only increase your profits but also increase your long-term growth.

Recently eBay has also added the ability to cross-promote with other sellers.  This is very easy to set up and eBay manages the whole process for you.  All you have to do is go to the "Cross-Promotion Connections" area of My eBay and then use the request cross-promotions link in order to set them up.  If the other seller agrees then a box promoting their products will appear on your listings and vice versa.  This is again a valuable opportunity to increase sales.

7) Store Tools:- With an eBay store you get tools such as sales reports, traffic reports, and a basic newsletter tool.  The first two tools are very useful for monitoring how your business is growing.  The traffic reports show you your daily traffic for all of your eBay pages, and compare it to the traffic on those pages both 4 weeks prior and 1 year prior.  This allows you to monitor both your short term and long-term growth.

The sales reports are particularly useful because they incorporate eBay fees and PayPal fees.  This means you can see how much actual profit you are making after all fees have been accounted for.  They also show sales growth so you can monitor this also.

The newsletter tool whilst basic is also useful.  If people opt-in to recieve your newsletter then it can automatically be set to send out monthly updates of new items that have been added to your eBay store.  This again increases the chance of repeat business.  It is particularly useful for ebook sellers who are likely to be adding new products on a regular basis.

8) Store Customisation:- With an eBay store you can customise the look and feel of the store, making it unique.  The ways you can do this include adding a store logo, adding a custom header to all your logos, choosing the layout of your categories and listings, changing the colours, using promotion boxes, and much more.  The benefit that this provides is that when customers visit your store it is different and stands out from the rest.  This will make them pay more attention to your store, spend more time browsing, and hopefully lead to increased sales and long-term business.

9) Store URL:- When you get an eBay store you get an actual URL (http://stores.ebay.co.uk/yourstore) which you can promote.  Not only does this link look much more attractive and professional than the long and clunky View the Sellers Items link, but it also gets listed in the search engines and the eBay stores directory.  This means that you will have traffic coming in from outside of eBay also, which is a benefit you do not get without eBay stores.
Hopefully this article has shown you that for the low monthly fee of £6 you can save time and money, look like a more professional business, and increase your traffic and sales.  You even get your first month of having an eBay store free so there really is nothing to lose and a whole lot to gain.

There are many tools that you can use to make the process of distributing your articles easier. However, although this is invaluable in getting your article exposed to more sites, there are common mistakes that some people make before submitting their articles to directories.
Let us take a look at the more common mistakes made in 3 key areas:
1) Confusing the reason to promote articles with the reason to write them.
In article writing, the main benefits of you promoting them is branding, lead generation and promotion, which are all part of your optimization efforts.
However, there is one reason why you write articles, and that is to inform your audience about a subject. It is greatly important that your article is based upon this fact, or else you stand to fail in the promotional benefits as outlined above.
Of course, it is also highly important that you figure out how to get people to read you article, and then to click on your site link in the resource box. I have produced a couple of articles that cover these areas so please check them out :-).
2) Failing to realize and maximize the promotional opportunities of article marketing.
You will more than likely already know that your article can generate links back to your site from the article directories themselves, and also from any sites who publish your article from these directories.  However, did you know that you can attract more visitors and better search engine results from the same article?
The first step to achieving this is to provide relevant keywords at strategic places in the article. However, do not overdo this.  A good benchmark is to aim for between a ten to fifteen percent keyword density. I won't go further into this here as I've discussed this in other articles but if you would like to find out more, look out for more of my article marketing articles.
You shouldn't just aim for your article to be accepted by article directories, but should ultimately aim for it to be used by publishers who scour the directories for website content. You should not underestimate the potential that this can have on your promotional efforts, as many of these publishers may have hundreds or thousands of regular visitors who could then view your article.
Start out by having a plan of what you want achieved and make sure that you reach your targets. It is important to do this so that you can reap the maximum benefits of every article that you write.
3) Creating articles with content that does not help your readers.
Maybe your only plan is to create an article and get links back from article directories, and that any visitor that you may get from this is fine.
Well you may need to think again. Many article directoriesclamp down on the amount of articles that they accept that are simply not up to standard. And even if a poorly written, uninformative article does make it into the article sites, then the potential of being picked up by webmasters seeking quality content is certainly lost.
The benefits of one publisher with a hundred thousand website visitors picking up your article should be enough incentive for you to write an informative article. This is by no means impossible, and you may find that this value is conservative in what you may achieve from a number of publishers running your article on their site.
Researching into a topic that is sought after is important. There may be many readers of this article who will feel that this information is all well and good but feel that they cannot write an article well, or may not know enough about a certain subject to write an article. This is by no means a dead-end. There are many places where you can research into a topic, or hiring a writer might be an option worth considering.
The choice really is yours on how dedicated you are in increasing the exposure of your article, and consequently your website. On a basic level you can choose to gain a few backlinks from article directories, or with a little more effort you can enjoy massive exposure from providing quality content.

Making money online requires a commitment of time, effort and capital for your work from home venture to be successful. You will need to invest your money on advertising for your home business. If your budget is small, these ideas will help elevate your presence for a modest amount. Focus on one or two concepts that will fit into your time, expenses and comfort zone or develop other ideas. The success of your online home enterprise is directly related to the effort that you deliver and the patience that you exhibit. On a small budget, the results may take longer but they will come.

Champagne bottles are put on riddling racks at a 45 degree angle, comprising the two rectangular boards that have been hinged at the top of the rack. On each side of the rack, there are ten rows that contain six holes for the necks of the bottles. Due to their structure and shape, each riddling rack is capable of holding 120 bottles, although there are special models that are made to hold more.

The riddler, who places the bottles, will place a bottle neck into each one of the holes on the riddling racks. There are painted lines at the bottom of each bottle, which acts as a marker for placing the bottles. All markers point in the same direction, which makes it easy for the riddler to put the bottles on the racks.

Over the course of several weeks, the riddler will twist each bottle a few degrees. By doing this every day, the riddler will prevent the sediment from settling in one place. Once a few weeks have gone by, the riddler will slant the bottles to a 60 degree angle and ensure that each and every bottle on the riddling rack is neck down in the proper hole.

Once the riddling process is complete, the Champagne bottles will be placed in a freezer for a brief period of time. After an ice plug has formed along the necks of the bottles, they will be placed on a conveyer belt and taken down the line to a disgorging machine that will remove the crown caps from each one of the bottles. Once the crown caps are removed, the pressure is in place. The pressure that is well known with Champagne bottles is from the bottle shooting out the ice plug, or the frozen sediment that is trapped in the bottle.

For the home collector, Champagne racks are also important. There are other factors involved with riddling racks, such as temperature and location of the racks. With manufacturers however; everything simply must be perfect. Champagne is a very popular wine throughout the world, ideal for celebrations and special events. Riddling racks are essential to the process, including the infamous bursting bubbles. Champagne that doesn't feature the infamous bursting bubbles isn't really a tradition - and certainly wouldn't be worth the investment.

Cashiers are people, too, and sometimes they may be experiencing personal problems or even illness that make it very difficult for them to remain friendly at all times, even if they're normally a friendly person. Yet, there are some store workers who no matter what, are able to pull it off, and provide optimal service to each and every customer, just like the customer deserves. The employee could be suffering from a terrible toothache, just had a death in their family, or broken up with his or her significant other, yet they still manage to smile, acknowledge the customers as well as go out of their way to assist the customers in whatever way necessary. These employees certainly deserve recognition, because this isn't something that is easily achieved.

Individuals who provide such great customer service are probably born naturals, and people-persons. It takes a special person to be able to handle the public and deal with all of the abuse that they may receive from certain customers. They encounter people from all walks of life, and these people aren't always rationale or nice. Sure, some of the customers will be nice, pleasant, and easy to deal with. These friendly customers make it easier for the customer service rep to better deal with the nasty people that may enter the store. These nasty customers can be argumentative, demanding, and downright unreasonable. Any normal customer service rep would mistakenly retaliate against such rude customers, yet the special "super employees' are able to effectively deal with this type of customer without losing their cool. They are able to expertly handle the person in such a way that the customer actually begins to feel guilty about their behavior, and may even apologize. This takes real talent, and should definitely be recognized. So, if you witness this type of employee, please bring it to the manager's attention, because they deserve it.
